Aussie bar’s unique offer to pay back drinks bill if you get a hangover

There’s no denying the cost of a night out on the drink has risen as Aussies are stung by a hike in alcohol taxes, not once, but twice a year. A pint of beer can be in excess of $20, a price some would have scoffed at for a jug in years gone by.

The price of a hangover is real too. Personal pain aside, the collective hangovers of millions of workers were estimated to cost businesses $750 million in lost productivity after the Melbourne Cup last year.

Those getting a drink at Sydney bar the Nocturne could score their money back if they wake up feeling sad and sorry under a takeover by hangover anti-hangover supplement alc-eze.

"We believe in the product so much that we are willing to put our money where our mouth is and pay for your bill if you feel hungover the next day." co-founder Rohit Uppal told Yahoo Finance.

Uppal said the first drink you have will be served with the TGA-approved supplement and means you won’t “sacrifice a day’s work for a night out”.

The brand’s claim is that the nashi pear extract infused dose will “relieve symptoms of occasional hangovers like headaches, nausea, mind fog and anxiety”.

You’ve got to have your receipt and battle the hangover to make the claim in person at the bar before 5pm the following day. It’s capped at $50 and you can only get it once, so no double dipping.

The alc-eze Hangover-Free Bar will be open in Surry Hills from Thursday April 25 to Sunday April 28, which takes in the public holiday of Anzac Day.

Research commissioned by alc-eze estimated 650,000 Aussies would chuck a sickie after a public holiday, so could be worth a try to avoid that awkward call with your boss.
